Obituary of Gary L. Sheldon

Gary L. Sheldon, 73, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Friday, September 27, 2024. He was born on July 4, 1951 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Charles T. and Emma J. Hess Sheldon. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Mindy Lachapelle Sheldon. Gary proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he toured in the Vietnam War. He was known to have a passion for autobody paint work and customizing cars, as he owned and operated S&G Custom Body for several years. He also worked at several local car dealerships in the area. Gary enjoyed attending car shows, racing, and Chrysler events. He was a known NASCAR fan, especially rooting for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. Gary also had a love for traveling, specifically to Columbus, OH. He had a special love for his cats, who will miss him deeply. In addition to his loving wife, Gary is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Marchionna of WV, sister, Diana Jo Hinton of Canton, OH, mother and father-in-law, Marlene and John Lachapelle of Clarksburg, brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Eva Lachapelle of Huntington, and three grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, William Sheldon, and brother, Charles Sheldon, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to the WVU Home Health and Hospice, 2673 Davisson Run Road, Clarksburg, WV 26301 or to the Pet Helpers, Inc., 726 East Park Ave, PMB 311, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. Friends will be received on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 2 pm until 6 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 6 pm with Reverend Thomas Horne officiating. Flag folding military honors will be conducted by the Harrison County Honor Guard.
