Obituary of Annie Mary Yost Cooper
Annie Mary Yost Cooper, 96, of the Mill Fall Community, passed away on August 31, 2024 at the John Manchin, Sr. Healthcare Center in Fairmont. She was born August 16, 1928 in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Jacob Elias and Fannie Belle Furbee Yost. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Golden “Dode” A. Cooper.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Bellview. She taught Sunday School for over thirty years and served as a culinary lead in the Christian school cafeteria. Annie obtained her CNA degree and served as a nurse’s aide with both St. Barbara’s Nursing Home in Monongah as well as Wishing Well Nursing home in Fairmont for many years. She worked with several personal care homes in the Fairmont area, and was a private, in-home healthcare giver.
Church and her kids were the focus of her life. Cooking and canning, puzzle books, detective books, and gardening kept her busy. She used to sing on WMMN radio on Friday and Saturdays. Annie was a “busy lady” always working, but made everything fun, it never felt like work. She delivered food to her elderly neighbors. She was very giving and always prioritized taking care of others.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her children: Harold and Betty Cooper of Kentucky, Bonnie Garrett of Shinnston, Eva Lou Cooper of Pennsylvania, Richard and Kathy Cooper of Virginia, Annette and David Garland of Mill Fall, Robert Cooper of Shinnston, as well as numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Annie was preceded in death by her son, Golden Andrew Cooper, Jr., her brother, Patty Elias Yost, her sisters, Elizabeth Frazee, and Bonavere Ann Yost.
The family would like to thank the staff of the John Manchin, Sr. Healthcare Center for the loving care over the past years.
