Obituary of Valora Elouise Mayo Martin

Valora Elouise Mayo Martin, 96, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the Fairmont Medical Center. She was born January 8, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan a daughter of the late Richard Curtis and Jeannette Sandy Mayo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ray Martin. Elouise was a member of the Central Christian Church Disciples of Christ and was a former member of the Worthington Disciples of Christ Church. She was a homemaker in her own home and became the caregiver for multiple family members. She was the family historian and could recollect family trees and stories from over the years. She would remember every family member’s birthdate by memory and would always make sure to send them birthday wishes. Elouise enjoyed her word search puzzles and loved her cat Molly. Elouise is survived by her daughter, Linda Martin Keener of Fairmont, her nephew, Richard Curtis Mayo, III, as well as several great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Sue Martin, her son-in-law Franklin D. Keener, her grandson, Franklin D. Keener Jr., her brother Richard Curtis Mayo Jr. and his wife Edith Virginia Looman Mayo, as well as her niece Ida Jeannette Mayo Diem. Memorial donations may be made to the Marion County Humane Society, P.O. Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26555. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family may visit the funeral home on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 4PM until 8PM and Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11AM with Reverend Charles Cochran officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum.
