To know Richard was to love him.
I certainly have loved him throughout the years since we first met in our MPA program so many years ago. I have know Richard for more than half of my life and he quickly became an essential part of my life. He was more than my best friend; he was my person, my confidant, the person I could trust with anything, as well as the person that I knew would tease me relentlessly about a mistake I made or something dorky that I did along the way.
Sadly, I just found out Monday that he passed away, so I was unable to attend the funeral, and for that, I am truly sorry.
My deepest sympathies go to you, Mr. and Mrs. Walton as I know how much Richard (Mike) loved you with all of his heart and soul. I have been and will continue to pray for both of you. So many of my greatest memories are with your son, Richard Michael Walton. The grief I am experiencing is equivalent to the joy he brought into my life for almost 25 years.
This is a great tragedy not only for me, but for everyone that loved and adored this remarkable man, Richard Michael Walton.
You are loved forever, Richard!
I have attached one of my favorite photos of Richard and I from a banquet in 2009 with Dr. Plein standing behind us, and a photo from 2013 in Morgantown.
