Obituary of Joyce Elaine (Haas) Johnson

Joyce Elaine (Haas) Johnson, 88, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at her residence. She was born on January 24, 1936 in Phillipsburg, NJ, the daughter of the late Raymond and Pearl (Musselman) Haas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2012, Gordon Jean Johnson. Joyce was a faithful member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Methodist Woman, Thursday Bible Study Group, and served during numerous bereavement dinners throughout the years. She was a proud graduate of Phillipsburg High School and Virginia Intermont University, where she obtained a degree in Marketing and Retail. Joyce served over 35 years in the Marketing and Retail Departments for various, well-known retailers across the country. Joyce was also the President of Governor Johnson’s Garden Club. She found great joy in playing “Bridge” with all those she encountered, including her weekly games with friends. Joyce found her greatest joy in spending time with her friends and family. Joyce is survived by her daughter, SallyAnn Flesher of Bridgeport, son, Eric David Kline of Bethlehem, PA, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley Hastings and her fiancé Brandon Nicholson of Clarksburg, WV, and Joshua Patrick Hastings and his fiancé Madeline Clark of Huntington, WV, as well as one greatgrandchild, Colton James Nicholson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce’s memory to the Bridgeport United Methodist Church Permanent Fund, 251 Worthington Dr, Bridgeport, WV 26330, or to the WVU Medicine Hospice, 2673 Davisson Run Road, Clarksburg, WV 26301. The family would like to extend a special thank you to WVU Hospice, especially Trish, Nichole, and Faith for their care, love, and support. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. Friends will be received at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 10 am until 12 noon. The funeral service will be held in the church at 12 noon with Reverend Dr. Matthew Paugh officiating. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery.
