Obituary of Clyde Jonathan Michael
Clyde Jonathan Michael, 74, of Rivesville, WV, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 surrounded by his children. He was born September 3, 1949 in Fairmont, WV a son of and Frieda Marie Bowling Michael and the late James William Michael.
Clyde was raised in the Methodist faith within the Rivesville United Methodist Church. He was a 1967 graduate of Rivesville High School, and a 1971 graduate of Fairmont State College where he obtained his Bachelors’ degree. Clyde retired from Consol Coal Company with over 25 years of service as a coal miner, serving primarily at Consol’s Loveridge mine.
Clyde was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and loyal friend. He was one of Rivesville High School’s standout athletes. He enjoyed hunting on his property throughout his life, and was an avid golfer and he loved the annual golf trip with his buddies to Myrtle Beach. Clyde was a big proponent and supporter of Mountaineer athletics. He was very close with his cousins and extended family. He loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, even at the collegiate level.
Clyde is survived by his children, Jeff Michael of Myrtle Beach, SC, Leighanne Michael and her wife Cathy, and Braylon Garcia of Rivesville, his grandchildren, Jared Scott Michael, Brennan Andrew Michael, and Olyvia Kate Michael, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, his former spouse and lifelong friend, Yvonne Marie Liberto. He is also survived by his brother Steven Lee and Paula Michael of Rivesville, his very special cousin with whom he was raised, Paula Elaine Constable Filler, of Rivesville, his niece and nephew, Will Michael and his wife Millie of Rivesville, and Brooke Walker and her husband Michael of College Station TX, as well as his great nieces and nephews, Riley and Morgan Michael, and Hendricks Walker.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV. Friends and family may visit on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 1PM until 6PM.
