Obituary of Sheryl J. Barnes Beck
Sheryl Jean Barnes Beck, 73, of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 in the ICU of Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL, surrounded by her loving family and her friend Jan Hedrick Bachowski. She was born September 6, 1950 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late John Lewis and Betty L. Daugherty Barnes. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Danny William Beck.
Sheryl was a member of the Suncrest Methodist Church in Morgantown where she was a member of the Ruth Hartley Ladies Circle. She was a 1968 graduate of East Fairmont High School where she was a member of the Tri Arky social club. She attended Fairmont State College, and after raising her children, Sheryl attained her degree in licensed practical nursing. She retired as a LPN with MonGeneral Hospital having worked for over 20 years. She was also an owner of Archie’s Restaurant in Sabraton where she nurtured employees and customers in her special way of making them feel useful and special.
Sheryl enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and their cousins swimming, camping in her younger age, and having taught them to swim, ride bikes, and to enjoy life. She also enjoyed all her children’s friends who often stayed and frequented McCoy Street, eating her out of cereal and soft drinks. She enjoyed her many friends and the monthly get togethers of fellow classmates at Apple Annie’s. She was a notorious member of HBA’s with her friends and card playing buddies. Sheryl was a unique and special person knowing just the right way to reach out to people. Having passed away on March 17, the day will officially be known to her family and friends as “St. Sheryl’s Day”.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Andy and his wife Gloria Beck of Morgantown, and her daughter Aaron Beck Cooke of Morgantown, her grandchildren Beckett Cooke, and Tripp and Cash Beck, and her brother, Lewis and Suzy Barnes of Morgantown. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Raffie and Keith Hamilton, Sunny Barnes, and Dustin and Natalie Barnes, and her great nieces and nephews, Riley and Leah Hamilton, Addyson and Bristol Barnes, and Jagger Barnes.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family may visit on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 2PM until 8PM and on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11AM with Reverend Larry Buckland officiating. Interment will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, WV.
