Uncle Herbert influenced me a great deal growing up, listening to stories about West Virginia and coal mining. Uncle Herbert, Aunt Virginia and my cousins visited us many times during summers. On our farm, Herbert would often take on a project like assembling a grain wagon, helping me repair a well, work with our livestock (hogs), and mechanic repairs on our tractors. Herbert was very handy and knew how to do many things. Herbert was a very patient man, kind, and wise in many regards. I always looked up to him and learned many things from him. He was a great christian man and he loved his family.
