Obituary of Gary Lynn Nicholson
Gary Lynn Nicholson, 76, of Lost Creek, WV, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at his residence. He was born February 2, 1947 in Clarksburg, WV, a son of the late Robert W. and Nina Mae Grose Nicholson. He is survived by his companion of 27 years, Mary Jo Coffindaffer Greathouse.
Mr. Nicholson was a Christian by faith and served as a Seaman with the waterway patrol with the United States Army during Vietnam. He retired after a career of service with the Logan Corporation as a truck driver with mining equipment delivery.
Gary loved trout fishing in the mountains, hunting locally, and riding four wheelers and side-by-sides with his grandkids. He loved to “piddle” in his out building and was fondly known at the “Mayor of the neighborhood” where he would help fix or give advice to neighborhood projects.
In addition to his companion Mary Jo, Gary was survived by his sister, Karen Brown of Massachusetts, his step-children: Terri Radcliff of Lost Creek, WV, Tom and his wife Karen Greathouse of Georgia, and Tammi and her husband Bert Martin of Virginia, his grandchildren: Josh and his wife Joy Radcliff, Stephanie Harrison, Drew and his wife Sarah Jones, Adam and his wife Natalie Radcliff, and Amanda Greathouse, his great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jarin, Braden, Ella, Vivian, Charles, Jude, and Calvin, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family are welcome to visit on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 1PM until 8PM and on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 11AM until 12 noon. The funeral will be held in the funeral home at 12 noon with Pastor Josh Radcliff officiating. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV where the Marion County Veterans Council will provide full military rites.
