Obituary of Isabel L. Opas

Isabel L. Opas, 96, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on October 26, 1927 in Martins Ferry, OH, a daughter of the late Stephen and Flora E. Tock Rompa. In 2008, Isabel was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Opas. She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Fairmont, where she enjoyed Charismatic Monday Mass. She was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 294 Ladies Auxiliary. Isabel was a proud graduate of East Fairmont High School and Canton Actual Business College in Canton, OH. She worked as a former teller at First National Bank, and also taught at the O.I.C. in Fairmont. Isabel enjoyed traveling to her second home in Englewood, FL. Isabel will be deeply missed by her daughter, Susan Moran and her husband John of Fairmont, and son, Randy Opas and his wife Linda of Fairmont. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jessep Opas, Anna Chapman and her husband Josh, Leah Opas, Josh Moran and his wife Marina, Jonathan Moran and his wife Rachal, Lindsey Fisher and her husband Matt, and Clint Moran, as well as fourteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Olga Torok and Margaret Maurer, and Rose Vermilyea. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. In accordance with Isabel’s wishes, cremation services will occur. Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 23, 2023 from 9 am until 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 329 Maryland Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554. A memorial mass will be held in the church on Tuesday at 10 am with Father Kishore Varaparla, HGN and Sister Stella Cronauer, CSJ officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens.
