Obituary of Nelson Lee Moore, Sr.

Nelson Lee Moore, Sr., 74, of Grafton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was born on July 11, 1949 in Bridgeport, WV a son of the late Lansing and Hazel Moore. Nelson worked as a glassmaker with the Anchor Hocking Company. He attended Bridgeport High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Nelson found great joy in hunting, fishing, enjoying the great outdoors, and running his No. 9 Car in local demolition derby’s. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by two brothers, James Moore and his companion Melody Westfall of Grafton, WV and Thomas Moore and his wife Norma Jean of Bridgeport, WV, two sisters, Sharon Dilsworth of Summer Park, Clarksburg and Roberta Swiger of Upper Pleasant Creek. He is also survived by his two children, Nelson “T-bone” Moore and Anita Moore, both of Simpson, WV. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Corey Moore and his wife Justice, Justin Moore, and Hannah Moore, and one great grandchild, Caroline Moore, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Riley. Memorial contributions may be made in Nelson’s memory to the Veterans Foreign Wars, 225 W Main St, Grafton, WV 26354. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330. In accordance with Nelson’s wishes, cremation services will occur. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 in the West Virginia National Cemetery, 42 Veterans Memorial Ln, Grafton, WV 26354 with full military honors at 10am with Pete Summers officiating.
