Obituary of Barbara Lynn Judy
Barbara Lynn Judy, 79, joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on January 1, 2024. Barbara was born on
June 11, 1944 in Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, to the late Glenn E. and Margaret Mercer.
Barbara retired from the Harrison County School System after working for 32 years as a guidance
counselor. In 1992, she started an academic quiz bowl and was the winning coach. She coached
more state championship teams than any other individual in Bridgeport High School history. In 2008,
Barbara won the Benedum Fellows Award, and in 2017 she was inducted into the Bridgeport Hall of
Fame for her benefit to the community and her dedication to the education workforce by donating her time, talent, and resources.
Barbara played the flute in the Shinnston Community Band for over 15 years. She was an active
member of the Bridgeport Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played the flute, served on the mission committee and the women’s group. She loved her sports teams: NASCAR, West Virginia Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Her memory will be forever treasured by her children: Thomas (Jennifer) Judy, and Jennifer (Nathan) Dutton; her sister, Frances Holdren; her three grandchildren: Ryan, Kaylah, and Brayden, along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Mercer.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV. Friends and family may visit the funeral home to celebrate her life on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 5PM until 7PM and then at the church, Bridgeport Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10AM until 11AM.
