Obituary of Joe Randall Law
Joe Randall Law, 87, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Quality Life Services in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania. He was born on October 3, 1936 in Clarksburg, WV, a son of the late Ridley R. and Alma Washburn Law.
Joe was a Methodist by faith. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1953 and earned a degree in Engineering at Fairmont State College in 1968. He retired as a Foreman and Longwall Coordinator with Consolidated Coal Company at Loveridge Mine.
Joe is survived by one son, Scott Randall (Denise) Law of Fairmont, one daughter, Kimberly Ann (Dr. John) Neville of Hurricane, WV, and three grandchildren, Savanna Law and her companion Hunter Riggs, Natalie Neville, and Nathan Neville. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Isabella and Maggie Riggs, one niece, Tammy Hill (Michael) Saab, one nephew, Randy (JoAnn) Hill, and one stepdaughter, Cindy (Ronnie) Moorehead of Fairmont.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a local member of the Muscle Car Mafia, as his passion was racing. In 1966, Joe won his Class in the Spring Nationals in Bristol, TN. He won the Comp Eliminator in Bristol, Indy Nationals, and Riverside in 1967, while setting national records four times and winning a new Top Fuel Gas Dragster and trailer. His 1991 mark of 244.23 mph on gasoline stood for thirty years as the fastest speed in a street engine of any size, until broken in 2021. Joe was inducted into the Dry Lakes Hall of Fame in 2003. He also was proud to be named the First Inductee to the Eldora Raceway Hall of Fame. Joe’s life motto was “I just want to go fast”. When Joe was asked, how fast is fast enough? His reply was, “I’ll let you know when I get there”.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Glenna Law Wagner and his beloved cocker spaniel, Pepper.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 3 pm until 7 pm and on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10 am until 11 am. The service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 am with Reverend Stanley Merrifield officiating.
