Obituary of Cathy Lea Satterfield

Cathy Lea Satterfield, 67, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the Gensis Healthcare Tygart Center. She was born September 22, 1956 in Fairmont, the daughter of Wanda Eddy Haught and the late James Wilford Haught. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Carter “Satch” Satterfield of Fairmont. She is also survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Lauren (Troy Allen) Sheets of Fairmont and Blendora Dori Marie Williamson of Colfax Community, WV. Cathy graduated from Clay-Battle High School in the class of 1974. When she was young, she worked at her parents’ store, Haught’s Dairy Mart in Core, and she also worked as a secretary at Morgantown Machine, Northco, and Wilson Works. Cathy adored Satch, her husband of 27 years, and she loved riding with him on his Harleys and taking long drives throughout the state. She mostly loved being at home with her husband and her many black cats. Cathy had an affinity for black cats and had several over the years; Bubba, Stars, Luke, and Luna. Cathy loved taking care of her home, and some of her favorite things were finishing the daily crossword puzzle, decorating for the holidays, trying new recipes, and taking care of her many plants and flowers—one only had to send a sad plant to her, and she would return it green and healthy in no time. Jenny and Dori had a special close relationship with their mother, and they both will miss their morning phone calls and the good advice that only a mom can give. She loved her girls and their trips to the green house, and spending Sunday afternoons with them on her porch in the summer. Cathy loved spending time with her grandson, Jett, and making cookies and doing crafts. They had a special close relationship and loved to watch cartoons together. Cathy will also be missed by her mother, Wanda, sister, Bobbie, and brother-in-law, Gary, son-in-law, Troy, many cousins, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Prior to their passing, Cathy also loved spending time with her brothers Jamie and Nathan. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to Marion County Humane Society. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. All services for the family are private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
