Obituary of Gerald Fay "Lefty" Summers

Gerald Fay “Lefty” Summers, 88, of Fairmont passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Fairmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on October 13, 1934, a son of the late Ormond “Red” Summer and Alice Marie Swisher Summers. Lefty is survived by his twin sister, Geraldine Black and her husband Bob of Palm Beach Gardens, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lefty was preceded in death by his brother, Millard L. Summers and sister, Lila Glendine Weaver. Lefty was a 1952 graduate of East Fairmont High School and retired from Morgan Auto Parts in Fairmont. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Catawba United Methodist Church. Lefty loved singing and playing music. He was a member of the Catawba Charge Choir and was in another group which sang gospel music. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. A committal service will follow at Catawba Cemetery.
