Obituary of Edgar Addison Hess II

Edgar “Bud” Addison Hess II, 80, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at his residence. He was born on January 3, 1943 in Bridgeport, WV at home, a son of the late Edgar A. and Twylia Y. Smith Hess. He is survived by the love of his life Geraldine (Gerry) Isner Hess, whom he married in 1962. Bud attended Bridgeport Elementary School and Bridgeport High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1962 through 1967, where he sang with the Blue Jackets Choir. He worked at Monongahela Power Company for 32 years, retiring from Harrison Power Station in 2002. In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by his children, two sons, Jon E. Hess and his wife Wendy, of Oxford, ME, and Stephan Hess and his wife Jennifer of Bridgeport, and one daughter, Lisa Hess Maditz and her husband Larry of Bridgeport. He is also survived by three brothers, Kerry Hess and his wife Suzanne of Bridgeport, Gregory Hess and his wife Candy of Port Charlotte, FL, and Scott Hess and his wife Diane of St Petersburg, FL, 6 grandchildren, Matthew Hess of Oxford, ME, Taylor Selmon and her husband Adam of Bridgeport, Mickala Layman and her husband Jack of Bridgeport, Derek Hess of Bridgeport, Owen Hess of Bridgeport, and Adam Hess of Bridgeport, as well as 5 great grandchildren, Liam Selmon, Amelia Selmon, Killian Layman, Everett Layman, and Addison Layman (arriving April 2024). Bud's favorite pastime was golfing. He played all over the State of WV, but mostly at Bel Meadow Country Club in Clarksburg where he hit a hole-in-one on hole 14. However, his greatest achievement was his family. He loved watching WVU with his son and grandsons, and he spent countless hours playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If you ask them, he was best at telling stories about Timbuktu, singing Yankee Doodle, and causing mayhem anytime Meme was in the kitchen. Bud was truly an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was the life of the party, and he will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
