Obituary of Shirley Ann Shears Avey
Shirley Ann Shears Avey, 79, of Rivesville, West Virginia died Monday, November 14, 2016 in the Fairmont Regional Medical Center. She was born in Baltimore, MD, on July 14, 1937 the daughter of Charles Oliver Shears & Naomi Grace Phillips Shears. She is survived by her husband Brady Arlington Avey of Rivesville, WV.
She is survived by 4 daughters Karen Cone of Florida, Glenda Griffin of Hurlock, MD, Cynthia Lafferty and her husband Richard Lafferty of Nutter Fort, WV and Sharon Bender of Arnettsville, WV, 2 sons Dwayne Wilson of Baltimore, MD and Brian Bender of Baltimore, MD, a brother Ronald James Shears of Baltimore, MD, 20 grandchildren including Tara Ann Perri & her husband John Perri Jr. of Bridgeport, WV, Eric James Royal and his wife Tammy Royal of Monongah, WV and Kayla Marie Bender of Fairmont, WV and many great grandchildren. Mrs. Avey was preceded in death by a daughter Naomi Grace Radcliffe and a brother Charles Wallace Shears.
Mrs. Avey was a retired operator from the C&P Telephone Company and was also a former truck driver with her husband for the Buffalo Express Co. She was a graduate of Patterson High School in Baltimore, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, to assist with funeral expenses.
The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. The committal service will follow in the Arnettsville Cemetery in Monongalia County, WV.
