Obituary of Mary Jane Engel

Mary “Jane” Engel, 80, passed away on August 12, 2023, at United Hospital Center surrounded by her loved ones. Jane was born April 26, 1943, in New Martinsville, daughter of the late John and Dolly Geigley. “Janie” graduated from Valley High School, Class of 1961, Clarksburg Business College, and obtained her real estate license. Jane’s house was a wonderland of vintage books, very fitting for an avid reader such as herself. She also treasured plants, decorating, antiques, writing, music, exploring the endless wonders of Facebook, and her two cats, Daisy and Pearl, who were her two prized possessions. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Julie Fulks (Paul) and Ann Burkhammer (Michael); her four grandchildren, whom she affectionately referred to as “The Fab Four,” Rachel Dearth (Matthew), Caroline Fulks, Savannah Preston, and Charlie Preston; her great-granddaughter, Amelia Dearth; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Marsden, Linda Engel, Bonnie Coleman, and Jan Pitzer; her brother-in-law, Jack Engel; and several nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her late husband, David Engel (2019), her brother, David Geigley, and her sister, Doris Dawkins (Ronald). The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, the staff at Maplewood, and dear friend and caregiver, Robin Lewis for the love and care given over the last year… it is deeply appreciated. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made towards the Harrison County Humane Society or the Bridgeport Public Library in Jane’s honor. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 2 pm until 4 pm. In keeping with Jane’s wishes, cremation services will occur.
