Obituary of Richard B. Crowley, Jr.

Richard B. Crowley Jr., 83, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away in the comfort of his home July 5, 2023. Rick was born on May 1, 1940 in Roanoke, Virginia. He moved to Clarksburg with his family when he was 17 years old. He graduated from Notre Dame High school in 1958. His family owned and operated Crowley News Company, Crowley’s Hallmark, and Rex Hecks news & video where he worked for 42 years. Rick was a member of All Saints Parish where he worked for 20 years before retiring in 2018. Rick was a devoted family man always putting his family’s needs above his own. He played an active role in the lives of his granddaughters, whom he affectionately named #1, #2, #3, and #4 in order of their arrival, but they insisted, arguing with each other and joking with him, the ranking was a ranking of favoritism. They were all always his first priority. Rick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, camping, and ATV riding with his family and close friends. He was a history buff who participated in living history demonstrations of 1700s civilian living. Surviving are his wife Betty Fragale Crowley, to whom he was married for 62 years, and his brother Tom Crowley and wife Annette. Also surviving are one son, Richard B Crowley III, one daughter, Mary Beth Alfred, four granddaughters, Christina Hooker, Molly Crowley, Emmalee Alfred, and Abbie Alfred, one great grandson, Leevi Harmon, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to All Saints Parish. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330.
