Obituary of Rosemary C. Phillips

Rosemary C. Phillips, passed away peacefully at Harmony at White Oaks on June 25, 2023 at the age of 81. She was born on January 3, 1942 in Parsons, WV and was the daughter of the late Reverend Earle and Erma Carlson. Rosemary is survived by her son Daniel E. Phillips and his wife Sonia of Shenandoah, TX; her daughter Christine E. Miller and husband Chip of Whitehall, WV; her son William R. Phillips and his wife Rina of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren with another on the way in October. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dr. William (Bill) E. Phillips, Jr., her parents and two sisters, Erma Joan Sindeldecker and Geneva Jeanne Carlson. Rosemary was a lifelong educator. She graduated from Man High School and went on to Fairmont State graduating with an A.B in Elementary Education after raising her family going on to earn a Master’s in Education from West Virginia University. Rosemary served many students across Marion County at Central, Dunbar, Monongah and Whitehall Elementary. She was awarded the West Virginia Teacher of the Year in 1983. She also served in many organizations throughout her life. She served as a member of the choir at First Baptist Fairmont and Simpson Creek Baptist, Bridgeport, circles and women’s leader. Rosemary served as a council member for the City of Fairmont, Fairmont General Hospital Board and co-chair of the 2014 United Way Campaign with her husband and daughter. She also served in the Junior Women’s Club of Fairmont. Rosemary will be remembered for her laugher, smile and ability to sing a joyous song for all to hear. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Dr. William E. Phillips Jr. Leadership Marion Scholarship. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral home at 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 28th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., and June 29th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Services will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Michael Hopkins officiating.
