G. Patrick Stanton, Jr. November 21, 1933- June 17, 2023. G. Patrick Stanton passed away June 17, 2023. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, George P. Stanton, Sr. and Wilma Everson Stanton, and his wife of sixty-two years, Shirley Jean Stanton. Pat was born in Fairmont and attended Fairmont schools, and graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia. He graduated from Fairmont State College in 1956. That same year he married Shirley Jean (Champ) Stanton. Pat was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the military police at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. He began his banking career at First National Bank in Fairmont, and worked in trust departments at various banks around the country, and worked abroad in locations from Singapore to Paris for Chase Manhattan Bank in the early 1960’s. He received his MBA from the University of Dayton and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Baltimore in 1978. In 1979, he and his wife Shirley established the Law Firm of Stanton and Stanton in Fairmont. They were in business together for thirty-five years. Most recently, for the past ten years, he was Senior Partner at A and S Consulting Firm in Fairmont. Pat served the community as an original director of the Three Rivers (Coal) Festival. He was past President of the Fairmont Rotary Club and was awarded the Prestigious Paul Harris Award by the Rotary. He was past President of the Marion County Bar Association. He was named an outstanding alumnus by Fairmont State University and was awarded the Kaufman Award by the WV State Bar for his pro bono work. He served on the board of the Fairmont Field Club as well as various other clubs and associations. Pat was a Christian by faith and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, and Christ Community Church. He is survived by two sons, George P. Stanton III and Edward Scott Stanton of Summersville, and by grandchildren Christina Gouzd and her husband John of Taylor County, Stephanie Stanton and her husband Donovan, of Richmond, VA, George Patrick Stanton IV of Wheeling, Selby McClung and her husband Zakk of Summersville, Michael Tustin and his wife Amber of Buckhannon, and E. Kent Stanton of Ft. Collins, CO, and several great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, from 10 am until 1 pm. There will be no funeral service.
