Obituary of Dixie Lamb Burner

Dixie Lamb Burner, 80, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in the United Hospital Center. She was born on January 26, 1943, in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Reverend Paul J. and Edna E. Straley Lamb. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry C. Burner. Dixie was a devote Christian and a 1961 graduate from Tyler County High School. Upon graduating high school, she attended Fairmont State College. After working for over 24 years as a secretary, she retired from the Harrison County Board of Education. One of her duties as a secretary included taking the lunch count, where she ensured every child was fed, even if she had to pay out of her own pocket. Dixie never missed an opportunity to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates and was an avid supporter of Bridgeport Athletics. She was also a proud 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 11 in Bridgeport, where she held many offices, receiving numerous awards. Dixie is survived by her two sons, Lt. Col. Curt and his wife Dori Burner of Gainesville, VA, and Joseph Burner and his girlfriend Elizabeth Keough of Bridgeport, one daughter, Trudy Parker of Bridgeport. She is also survived by one brother, Jacob Lamb of Bridgeport, one sister, Paula Looman and her husband Duane of Farmington, WV, as well as three grandchildren, Brock and Luke Burner, and Owen Parker. In addition to her parents and husband, Dixie was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Lamb, and one granddaughter, Morgan Burner. The family would like to send a special thank you to caregivers, Sara Bostonia, Tonya Ward, and Pam Poling for their love, care, and support. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330. Friends will be received on Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 2 pm until 8 pm and on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 10 am until 11 am. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 am with Reverend Tom Horne officiating. Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.
