Obituary of Jackie "Jack" Layne Sutphin
Jackie “Jack” Layne Sutphin, 72, of Fairmont, WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 9, 1950, in Fairmont, a son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth Bell Sutphin. He was preceded in death by his life partner, Susan L. McCartney.
Jack was Church of Christ by faith. In 1979, he founded his own business in Fairmont, Quality Packing and Loading Services. In his spare time, he loved music, where he enjoyed playing any string instrument. He especially enjoyed the guitar, as he was a local lead guitarist and singer. Jack was a member of the Eagles Club and a friend to all who knew him. His caring and giving personality led many of his friends to call him “Five Dollar Jack”, because he also would help those in need.
Jack is survived by his son, Taylor Sutphin and his girlfriend Paige Yonkins of Fairmont, a daughter, Jackie Kyer of Charleston, WV, and a brother, Roger Sutphin and his wife Terry of Fairmont.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jonathan Fisher and his fiancée Sam, Aaron McNeill, and Brookelynn McNeill, close family friends, Evelyn and Randy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his life partner, he is preceded in death by a son, David Zenesik, and two brothers, Richard and Kenneth Sutphin.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
