Obituary of James "Jim" Warnick

James "Jim" Warnick, 90, of Monumental, WV, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center in Fairmont. He was born on February 1, 1933, in Granville, WV, a son of the late John and Lucille Watkins Warnick. Jim is survived by two daughters, Debbie Berry and her husband, Charley, of Fairmont, WV, and Cindy Gouzd and her husband, Vince, of Fairmont, WV, along with his loving sweetheart of 28 years, Jackie Thompson of Barrackville, WV. He is survived by one brother, Harvey Warnick, of Woodbridge, VA. Papaw Jim is also survived by one granddaughter, Kayla Gouzd Donoghue, and her husband, PJ, of Flemington, WV, along with three great-granddaughters, Cassence, Maelynn, and Amyah. He is survived by special extended family, Freda Kovach, Earnest Heldreth, Michelle Heldreth, Sharon Amadi and family, Charlie Berry, and Lorie Berry. "Uncle Bub" was loved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jim was a graduate of Barrackville High School and was known as "the artist" for his drawing abilities. He proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He retired from the United States Postal Service and is remembered as one of Fairmont's favorite mailmen. He served on the Monumental PSD Water Board as a director. He previously attended the Fairmont Baptist Temple and Barrackville United Methodist Church. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a great appreciation for nature and enjoyed watching wildlife out his window. He was an easy going, kind and patient man with a loving heart and wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed the local Fairmont hotdogs on his mail routes, and they remained one of his favorite foods for family to bring him when visiting. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Zona West Warnick, and two sisters, Dorothea Shriver and Connie Warnick. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Cassandra "Cassie" Gouzd. The family would like to thank John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center for providing loving and attentive care along with WVU Medicine Hospice. Also, a special thank you to Dan and Denise Pugh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County Humane Society, PO Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 11 am until 1 pm. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 1 pm with Pastor Stephanie Bennett and Reverend Harvey Warnick officiating.
