Obituary of Jack Randolph Gillett

Jack Randolph Gillett, 78, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Fairmont Medical Center. He was born on October 15, 1944, in Fairmont, a son of the late Walter W. and Bonnie G. Freeland Gillett. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda K. Hammond Gillett. He was a 1964 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. He is also survived by one daughter, Lisa Gillett of Fairmont; three brothers, Walter Gillett of Fairmont, Tom Gillett and his wife Ann of Florida, and Rick Gillett and his wife Sherry of Fairmont; one sister-in-law, Connie Gillett of Fairmont; two brothers-in-law, John Hammond and his wife Nancy of Glenview, IL and Doug Hammond and his wife Michelle of Summerville, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his surviving family, Jack is survived by his two Basset Hound Dogs, Lily and Marli. He worked as a mechanic for Leezer Auto Repair, until retiring. He was a former member of the Fairmont Moose Club No.9. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and “tinkering” with cars. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Bob Gillett; one sister, Karen Ann Barnes; one brother-in-law, Thomas Barnes, and in-laws, John and Helen Hammond. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Manchin Senior Health Care Center, Resident Council Fund, 401 Guffey Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family would like to thank the staff at the John Manchin Senior Health Care Center and Amedisys Hospice for their loving care and support. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at noon. A private committal will be held for the family at a later date.
