Obituary of Hossai Omar, M.D.
Hossai Omar, M.D., 52, of Monumental Community, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at her home. She was born August 3, 1970 in Boston, M.A. a daughter of Mohammed and Sharifa Habib Omar. She is survived by her husband of 11 years, William Robert O’Connor.
Hossai was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan with a double major in Biology and English, she also graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine. She had served as an attending physician with United Hospital Center, and spent most of her career with MedExpress in Fairmont serving in family medicine.
Hossai was dedicated to her occupation and enjoyed working with her coworkers. She was a yoga practitioner and personally practiced yoga regularly. She loved to garden and tend to her many house plants. Though she complained about weeding, she loved the meditational aspect of caring for living things. She was an avid and exceptional knitter. She fulfilled many difficult patterns and projects, often giving most of her creations away to friends and family. Hossai loved to collect elephant figurines and was drawn towards anything that dealt with elephants. She had always wanted to explore writing. She and her husband enjoyed camping and hiking throughout the United States, as well as attending many musical festivals, and raising numerous animals on their farm, including her beloved former dog, Mabon whom she missed very much.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Hossai is survived by her daughter, Olivia O’Connor, her sister, Hoggai Omar, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Public prayer services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 1PM at the Islamic Center of Morgantown, 434 Harding Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26505 with interment to follow at 3PM at the East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown, WV.
