Obituary of Leona Florence Taylor Dawson
Leona Florence Taylor Dawson, 81 of Fairmont, WV gained her angel wings on Saturday March 11, 2023. Leona was surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her home, as she wished to be, when she peacefully drifted off to sleep, her mind at ease and her heart tired.
On February 24th, 1942 Leona was born in Terra Alta, WV becoming what would be one of seven children. Leona would go on to travel and relocate to Greece, Alaska and Texas but settled in West Virginia for over the last 50 years. During that time Leona started building her family and that family would become everything she held dear. Leona's family was without a doubt her most important achievement in life.
Leona was a dedicated and irreplaceable employee at Westinghouse as well as The East Side Par Mar in Fairmont, WV from where she retired. Leona was a charismatic, loyal, honest, hardworking, and loving Christian who loved watching Mountaineer football, going on family vacations to Ocean City and mostly celebrating holidays because they brought everyone together. Leona's legacy lies within every family member.
Leona is survived by her children, Trina E. Skidmore and spouse Ronald E. Skidmore, Twila D. Doub, Angela R. Kriston and spouse Joseph L. Kriston as well as Darrell K. Dawson Jr. and spouse Christle D. Sims Dawson and her Grandchildren Tonya Atha Carpenter and spouse Daniel Carpenter, Amanda Kriston, Ashley Atha Graffius, Latisha Kriston, Brandon Kriston, Candice Doub and Andrew Doub as well as Kali Campbell, Gavin Dawson and John David Bowman. Leona was also survived by her Great Grandchildren, Kirsten Kuniyoshi, Alexis Kuniyoshi, Austin Atha, Jeremiah Hurd, Addison Boone, Levi Graffius, and Halie Jones as well as her Great Great Grandson Callahan Perkins, a brother-in-law Bucky Stevens, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nellie Taylor, 6 siblings; Mildred "Droop" Spangler, Donald "Donnie" Taylor, John Taylor Sr., Nellie Pauline Stevens, Richard Taylor and James Taylor Jr. as well as beloved Granddaughter Sasha Kriston.
The Dawson Family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St. Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received in the funeral home Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 4pm-8pm, and Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 10am-11am. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11am with Reverend Jim Zinn officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later time.
