Obituary of Archie "Boney" Leonard Cain, Jr.

Archie “Boney” Leonard Cain, Jr. of Fairmont, WV, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in Morgantown, WV at the age of 99. Archie was born in Fairmont, WV, on April 15, 1923, a son of the late Archie Cain, Sr. and Susan Cain. He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School, class of 1941. He was a graduate of Fairmont State University, and later attended Seminary School. Archie was a family man. He loved his wife, of 73 years, children, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter more than anything. Archie sold cars at Wilson Ford for 33 years before retiring. He was also a teacher at Pleasant Valley Elementary. He was a World War II Veteran, where he enlisted with the United States Army, 8th Armored Division stationed in the Pacific Theater. Archie was an original member of the East Fairmont Foundation. He was a founder of the East Fairmont Golf Tournament which funded scholarships within the Foundation. He was one of the founders of The Nickel at FSU. He was a member of Gateway United Methodist Church, the Elks Club of Fairmont No. 294, and the Masonic Lodge #9 A.F.&A.M. He was an avid golfer, loved sports, especially EFHS, WVU, and FSU sports, enjoyed fishing, Rock Lake, music, spending time with family, and attending church. Archie never met a stranger, and was loved by many. Archie is survived by his loving wife, Laura Cain, his son Richard “Rick” Cain (Alana Dennison), his daughter, Penny Cain Parrish, his granddaughter, Jennifer Parrish (Zane McCoy), and his granddaughter, Lilyana McCoy. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Anna Lee Cain, his nephew Robert Cain, his nieces, Jenny (Pat) Costello, Cindy (Mike) Leonard, and Pamela Robinson, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, along with many cousins. In addition to his parents, Archie was preceded in death by his brothers, William “Bill” Cain and his wife Doris Lea, and Robert “Bob” Cain, as well as his sister, Florence Cain, and his niece Charlene Cain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Fairmont High School Foundation, 1993 Airport Road, Fairmont, WV 26554, Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.
