Obituary of Dora Stotler Urso

Dora Stotler Urso, 94, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the United Hospital Center, in Bridgeport, WV. She was born December 8, 1928 in Baxter, WV a daughter of the late Berling L. and Garnett Dillon Hurt. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harvey W. Stotler and Frank J. Urso. Dora was a 1947 graduate of Fairview High School, as well as a graduate of Fairmont Business College with a degree in clerical studies. She was a longtime member of the H&H Chapel United Methodist Church in Fairmont. She retired from the Alcan Aluminum Plant in Fairmont with over 30 years of service in the business office as a secretary and later as a purchasing clerk. Dora was active with the Relay for Life and was a member of the Caring and Sharing Cancer Survivors Support Group. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life to various locations including: Italy, Israel, Panama, Hawaii, and Alaska, but her favorite vacation locale was Myrtle Beach for many years and wintering in The Villages. She was a member of the Willing Workers church group and helped to make over 300 pies per event on a monthly basis. Dora loved her family deeply and was very active in the lives of her grandchildren. Dora is survived by her sons, Lyle E. Stotler of Fairmont, and Mark (Martha) Stotler of Charleston, WV, her step-daughter, Kathy (Hugh) Urso Hitchcock of Elkins, WV. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Bryan (Nicole) Stotler, Adam (Sarah) Stotler, Matt (Ann) Merical, Joe (Jaelyn) Merical, Bethany (Chad) Hall, Hallie Stotler, Kyle Stotler, Katy Stotler, and Whitney Hitchcock, as well as 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her spouses, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Berling “Peanut” Hurt, Jr. and Tommy Hurt. Memorial Donations may be made to H&H Chapel, 141 Mt. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family are invited to visit on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 4PM until 8PM, and on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 10AM until 11 AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 11 AM with Reverend Gary Steele officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Fairmont, WV.
