Obituary of Mary Louise Rumer Simmons

Mary Louise Rumer Simmons, 84, of Fairmont, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at her home. She was born on June 15, 1938 in Morgantown, WV. She was the daughter of the late Dorsey Carlton Rumer and Emma Kathryn (Nair) Rumer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Harley Simmons. She is survived by her son, Greg Simmons and his wife Becky of Colfax, WV; three daughters, Sarah Tennant of Fairmont, WV, Ruth Moore and her husband Gary of Fairview, WV, Judy Riley and her husband Gary of Jane Lew, WV; brother, Dorsey Carlton Rumer of Oakland, MD; two sisters, Barbara Tusing and her companion Moses Miller of Oakland, MD, Betty Johnson and her husband James of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, Erin Wilson, Mandy Tolliver and her husband Mat, Amy Simmons, Danielle Moore, Michelle Greathouse and her husband Mike, and Benjmin Riley and his wife Jennifer; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sylvia Rumer of Oakland, MD. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Rumer and Daniel Rumer; four sisters, Alice Marie Rumer, Helen Jean Rumer, Ellen Simmons, and Shirley Pittman; and grandson, Marcus Felder. Mary was a Catholic by faith. She worked as a housekeeper for VFW Post #629 for 37 years. She was also a proud lifetime member of the VFW #629 Auxillary. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling in local leagues and reading. The family would like to thank the Amedysis Hospice Staff for their love and care including: Courtney, Brenda, Andrea, and Angie. The family has entrusted arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street in Fairmont, WV 26554 on Thursday, January, 5 2023 from 10 am to 1 pm. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm in the funeral home with Reverend Stanley Merrifield presiding. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens.
