Obituary of Robert L. Marks

Robert L. Marks, 94, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022. He was born in Barbour County, West Virginia; on Pleasant Creek, a son of the late Virgil and Mary Nuzum Marks. Married for 70 years, he wed Patricia Jo Smith on Sept. 3, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2020. Mr. Marks graduated from Philippi High School in 1947. He was a Veteran with the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War. He worked for Consolidated Natural Gas Corporation for 40 years, working in Field Operations for ten years and in several positions in the Purchasing Department. He retired as Manager of the Purchasing, Inventory Control and Traffic. Robert was active in the Boy Scouts, the Harrison County Heart Association, and served as President of the Morgan School PTA. He belonged to Hermon Lodge No. 6 A.F.&A.M. of Clarksburg., and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Clarksburg, West Virginia. After retiring, he and his wife Pat spent winters in Stuart, Florida, for over 20 years. He was an active member of the Duff Street United Methodist Church, serving in several positions, and taught youth and adult Sunday School for 25 years. He was Chairman of the Board of Discipleship for the Annual Conference of the West Virginia United Methodist Church as well as serving in other district positions. He is survived by his sons Harold C. Marks, of Elkins, West Virginia; and Michael E. Marks and wife Jeanne, of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren Audrey M. Marks, of Houston, Texas; Robert J. Marks and Erin Cox, of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Benjamin A. Marks and wife Katie, of Worthington, Ohio; Nick Marks and wife Lisa, of El Paso, Texas; Alexis M. Marks, of Houston, Texas; and great grandson William A. Marks, of Worthington, Ohio. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers William O. Marks and James L. Marks. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street. In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be held.
