Obituary of David V. Shreve
David V. Shreve, 99, of Fairmont passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at his home in Fairmont. He was born near Farmington on March 7, 1923, the son of the late Henry and Grace Cartwright Shreve. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosaria of 67 years who passed away on May 6, 2009. The couple were married on November 5, 1949.
David served his country in the United States Army during World War II at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for Consolidation Coal Company following 34 years of service at Consol #9, Robinson Run, and retiring from Oakdale in 1985. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of the Fourth Street Methodist Church, the Walnut Grove United Methodist. He was a local Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Leader. Dave was a friend to everyone, always helping and giving to others. He loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, David G. Shreve of Fairmont and two daughters, Kay Boyles and her husband George also of Fairmont and Sue Lee and her husband Greg of North Carolina. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Carmella Saporito of Fairmont.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters.
Friends and family will be received at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554 on Wednesday, December 28th from 9 am to 1 pm. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 28th at the funeral home with Pastor Albert Belt officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
