Dorothy “Dot” Rider, 89, of Charleston, WV, formerly of Fairmont, WV, passed away on December 21, 2022. She was born in Fairmont on June 22, 1933 of the late Willis W. Morgan and Wilma Conaway.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Kurt, of Charleston, WV; four grandchildren, Erin, Morgan, Victoria, and Cailee; a sister, Jo Ann VanPelt and her husband, Jack, of Bonita Springs, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, by exactly 14 years to the day, and a sister, Virginia.
Dot was a 1952 graduate of East Fairmont High School. She and George were high school sweethearts. Dot was a retired homemaker who travelled the world with George during his 20-year Air Force career. After retirement from the military, their civilian years took them to numerous locations until they came back home to West Virginia to stay. They spent many years enjoying their camp on the Tygart Valley River, and tailgating and attending WVU football games. She loved being with her family and friends, and her kindness and generosity to all will be missed.
The family expresses its appreciation for the Arthur B. Hodges Center, Charleston, for the care, compassion, and love given to Dot over many years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
