Obituary of Nancy Jane Thompson

Nancy Jane Thompson, 81, of Fairmont, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at her residence. Nancy was born on January 23, 1935, the daughter of the late George Frederick Stuck and Jessie Ermastine Atha Stuck. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her loving husband, Jim Thompson. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her daughter, Pam Bunner and her husband Terry of Fairmont; son, Ray Thompson and his wife Laurie of Kingwood; four grandchildren, Josh Shaver-Moskowitz and his husband Jeffrey of Pasadena, CA, Rachel Shaver of Virginia Beach, VA, T. J. Thompson and his wife Paige of Phoenix, AZ and Cody Thompson of Kingwood. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Don A. Stuck and a favorite uncle, P.C. “Bud” Atha Jr. Mrs. Thompson was a retired school teacher from the Marion County Board of Education and spent 18 years at East Fairmont High School. Nancy initiated the DECA Program at East Fairmont High School. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairmont where she served on the church session committee and as clerk of the session for many years. Nancy was a 1952 graduate of East Fairmont High School and a 1956 graduate of Fairmont State College. She did her post graduate work at Marshall and Virginia Tech. She was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and Kappa Alpha Delta Teachers Honorary. She was also a board member of the East Fairmont High School Foundation. The family would like to thank her friends, church family and Hospice Care for their love, care and support. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. The casket will lie in state on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at First Presbyterian Church, 301 Jackson St., Fairmont, WV 26554. The funeral service will be held in the church at 12 noon with Reverend Elise Neal officiating. A committal service will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
