Obituary of Gary Jesse Asher

Gary Jesse Asher, 79, of Rivesville, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born October 31, 1943 in Fairmont, WV a son of the late Okey R. and Sarah L. Smith Asher. Gary was a 1962 graduate of Barrackville High School and a veteran with the United States Army having served during Vietnam. He was a U.M.W.A. International Health and Safety Representative. He served as president with the U.M.W.A. Local #4047 and was appointed by the Govenor to the Board of Coal Mine Health and Safety for the State of West Virginia. Gary is survived by his daughters, Suzanne and Adam Davis of Nashville, TN, and Misty and Mike Carunchia of Fairmont, WV, his sister, Janice Smith of Rivesville, WV and his granddaughter Elena Jane Davis of Nashville, TN. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family may visit the funeral home on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 6PM until 8PM, Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 1PM until 8PM, and on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 9AM until 10 AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Monday in the funeral home at 10AM with Reverend Stanley Merrifield officiating. Interment will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, WV where full military honors will be held at graveside by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
