Obituary of Edward "Lee" Shipley

Edward “Lee” Shipley, 79, of Fairmont, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 7, 2022. He was born June 19, 1943 in Rivesville, WV a son of the late Clyde R. and Lillian R. Smith Shipley. He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Pownell Shipley. Lee was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Bellview. He retired as a coal miner with Consolidation Coal Company with over 41 years of service. Lee enjoyed wood working, leather crafting, and carpentry. He loved playing solitaire as well as hunting and fishing any chance he could. Lee had a wealth of knowledge about construction, electrical and plumbing work. He could fix any home repair problem or build anything from scratch. In addition to his wife, Lee is survived by his son, Rodney Shipley of Fairmont, Tammy and Bill Long of Fairmont, Renee Kerns and her husband David Efaw of Fairmont, and Michelle Shipley of Fairmont, his brothers: Douglas and Greta Shipley of Montana Mines, and George Shipley of California. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Troy Shipley, Zackary Long, Cory Long, Damee Hartman, Elora Shipley, Justin Hardesty, Tre Kerns, Tanya Spicer, Brandon Shipley, Abigail Shipley, 16 great- grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews including a special nephew Harry Yost. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Shipley, his six brothers: Tom, Dave, John, Donald, Sonny, and Bobby Shipley, his four sisters, Loretta Volek, Beatrice Flowers, Betty Hopkins, and Mary Redman. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 5PM until 8PM, Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 2PM until 8PM and on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 12 noon until 1PM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 1PM with Reverend Shelly Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
