Obituary of John Allan Nigh

John Allan Nigh, 66, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born June 6, 1956 in Fairmont, WV a son of Ernestine O. Bonner Nigh and the late David M. Nigh. He is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Kathleen Devison Nigh. John was a 1974 graduate of East Fairmont High School as well as Fairmont State College with a degree in business administration. He was an active member with St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont. John was self-employed in the rental business, but also worked as a nationally registered paramedic with Marion and Monongalia EMS crews for over 20 years. John converted to Catholicism in 1992 and became very active in the church thereafter. He and his wife taught catechism classes to new members for over 25 years and he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He had served as a volunteer fire fighter in the local area prior to his EMT career. John was very musically inclined and played the trumpet in his younger years, often playing for military funerals. John took a particular interest in gardening, specializing in perfecting his tomato output. He enjoyed playing tennis throughout his life and was an avid WVU football fan. John loved his family and spending as much time as possible with them, he adored his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pops”. In addition to his wife and mother, John is survived by his children, Emily Anne Nigh of Raleigh, N.C., and John Christopher Nigh and his companion Mandi King of Fairmont, his grandchildren, Mitchell William Nigh and Macey Abigail Nigh, and his niece and nephew Jessica Nigh Hickman and James Nigh, both of Parkersburg, W.V. In addition to father, John was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Nigh. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the giver’s choice in memory of John. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 407 Jackson Street, Fairmont from 10AM until 11AM. Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in the church on Tuesday at 11AM with Father Joy Raphal presiding and assisted by Deacon David Lester.
