Obituary of Leontine Rebecca Shock Painter

Leontine Rebecca Shock Painter, of Bridgeport, WV, died peacefully among her family Friday, October 7, 2022 at the age of 101. She was the daughter of the late Vergie Dae Shock and Victor Ahva Shock, of Anmoore, WV and the sister of the late Manvern Floyd Shock of New Port Richey, FL. A graduate of Bridgeport High School in1938, she was a star basketball player then continued her education in Business College and worked for the Union Carbide Corporation in the payroll department during WWII. Leontine was married for 55 years to her high school sweetheart, William H. Painter, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was a devoted and loving mother to her four children: Nancy R. Wagers (and late husband Larry) of Orlando, FL, Betsy E. Painter (and late husband Roger Kline) of Tucson, AZ, Samuel V. Painter and wife Marcia of Barrackville, WV, and Susan K. Painter and husband Vincent Rifici of Philadelphia, PA; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. An avid gardener, Leontine, was a long-time member of the Bridgeport Garden Club and was an active member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She loved the Mountaineers and celebrated her 90th birthday at Mountaineer Field, College Game Day LSU, which was announced on the scoreboard to the cheers of all Mountaineer fans. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, WV 26330, on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Dr., Bridgeport, WV 26330, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the church on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Dale Waters officiating.
