Obituary of Alfred "Rex" Cramer

Alfred “Rex” Cramer, 81, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Fairmont Genesis Tygart Center. He was born November 9, 1940 in Terra Alta, WV a son of the late Paul and Eva Taylor Cramer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce G. Cathell Cramer on December 2, 1997. Mr. Cramer was a 1958 graduate of Rowlesburg High School and a veteran with the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Benning and served in Korea. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Meadowdale. Rex retired from United Parcel Service with over 19 years of service as a truck driver. He later worked for over ten years at Walmart in the custodial department. Rex had enjoyed hunting in his early years at his wife’s family farm in Etam, WV. He loved to cut grass and maintain his yard. He loyally kept up the grass cutting at two small local cemeteries. Rex had strong family ties that kept him faithfully attending annual family reunions and homecomings in Terra Alta. He and his family were musically gifted, he played the mandolin, and they often played together in pick up sessions. Mr. Cramer is survived by his daughters, Karen A. Cramer of Fairmont, and Kimberly and her husband Roger Huffman of Monongah, his grandchildren, Lauren Huffman of Fairmont, Brooke Huffman of Monongah, and Roger II and his wife Ashley Huffman, of Georgia, and his great-grandchild, Neveah Massey. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn Waldeck, Freda and her husband Donnie Hileman, and Sharon and her husband John Nine, and his brother-in-law, Paul and his wife Charlotte Cathell. In addition to his wife and parents, Rex was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Cramer, and his sister Pauline DeBerry. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 3PM until 7PM and on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11AM with Pastor Robert Shaw officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
