Joseph Caputo, Jr., 87, of Rivesville, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was born February 24, 1935 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Joseph (Giuseppe) and Rose Munchin (Mancino) Caputo. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda C. Carder Caputo. Joe was a Christian by faith and was a graduate of Rivesville High School. Following graduation, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force, which turned into a 24-year career in which he served in the Vietnam Era as a flight mechanic and also traveled extensively post-war, being stationed throughout many countries worldwide. Upon his retirement and return stateside, he then had a career with the United Postal Service as a rural route carrier. Joe loved gardening for the shear act of sharing his produce with the community and friends, earning him the nickname “Farmer Joe”. He had a gift for music, having taught himself in adulthood to play the guitar and banjo. He especially enjoyed picking banjo with his friends on weekend music sessions. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed fly fishing and became quite adept at making his own flies. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his children, Terry (Ryan) Wilson of Blacksville, WV and Mark (Crystal) Caputo of Richardson, TX, his grandchildren, Alan Wilson of Ashburn, VA and Ali (Samuel) Buscher of Powell, OH, his two siblings, Clara Hendricks of Rivesville and JoAnn (Paul) Jezioro of Nashville, TN, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his siblings: John Caputo, Isabella Girard, Salvatore “Sam” Caputo, Frank “Fritz” Caputo, Patsy Caputo, Anthony “Tut” Caputo, Mary Caputo, Ann Rote, and Armeda Wilson, as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family are invited to visit on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 11AM until 1PM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 1PM with Reverend Dr. Allan Copenhaver officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, WV with the Marion County Veterans Council providing graveside military rites.
