Obituary of Wesley "Pete" S. Staud

Wesley “Pete” S. Staud, 87, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the Stonerise of Clarksburg Nursing Center. He was born December 29, 1934 in Fairmont, a son of the late Frank Leo and Gretchen Rose Sypult Staud. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sally L Barker Staud. Pete attended Covenant Church of Fairmont. He was a 1954 graduate of St. Peters High School and a graduate of Fairmont State College with a degree in Biology. Pete was a veteran with the United States Navy where he served as a corpsman in Puerto Rico, as a hospital medic in Bethesda, MD, and stationed at Camp Lagune. Pete served as a local insurance agent in the Fairmont area for over 35 years. He retired in 2001 with Nationwide Insurance and had previously worked with both Equitable Insurance and Traveler’s Insurance. Pete loved sports throughout his entire life which included boxing in his early years, playing basketball regularly until the age of 60, and cheering on his boys and coaching their athletic endeavors. Pete loved to go dancing with his wife, Sally and enjoyed music of all kinds. In addition to his wife, Pete is survived by his children, Wesley S. Staud, Jr. and his wife Cindy Ann of Fairmont, Blair Joseph Staud and his wife Marnie of Columbus, OH, Paul Michael Staud and his wife Gwendolinn of Fairmont, and Frank William Staud and his wife Sara Elizabeth of San Antonio, TX, his grandchildren, Amber Nicholle Watt and her husband Zachary, Ashley Michelle Brandfass and her husband Adam, Alesa Anne Staud, Cassidy Taylor Blais and her fiancé Robby Remmenga, Cory Tyler Blais, Andrew Michael Staud and his wife Tiffany, Alexandra Marie Earl and her husband Seth, Claire Michelle Maddox and her husband Stephen, William Tyler Staud, Madison Danielle Staud, Cory Ashtin Staud and his fiancé Haley Marie Schipper, and Krista Nichole “Polly” Staud, as well as his 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Frank Joseph “Joe” Staud and his wife Jennifer, sisters Patricia Barnes, and Mary Joan Lauderback, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Lynn Staud, his sisters, Carol Ann Anderson and Gretchen Regina Satterfield, and brothers-in-law, Pat Lauderback, Jack Barnes, and Joe Anderson. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday, September 23, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
