Obituary of Juanita Madalyn Cummings Salina
Juanita Madalyn Cummings Salina, 92, of Grant Town, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Barbara’s Memorial Nursing Home in Monongah. She was born on February 12, 1924 in Harrison County, a daughter of the late James Wesley Cummings and Daphne Ashcraft Cummings.
Juanita was a graduate of Fairview High School and worked for several years at the Grant Town Company Store. For the remainder of her life, she was a diligent homemaker, a loving mother, and a devoted grandmother. Sewing was a hobby and a passion for Juanita. Early on, she constructed numerous outfits for herself, her daughter, and her daughter’s friends. She made several full-size quilts and countless baby quilts for her family and for gifts. Juanita also enjoyed 1940s big band music, cross stitch embroidery, reading biographies, and baking. Her neighbors and friends were often recipients of her beautiful apple pies and delicious chicken soup.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, George Salina in 1975 and a brother, William “Bill” Cummings in 1995. She is survived by her children: Sharon Mazure and husband Ken, and James Salina and wife Mary, all of Grant Town. Also surviving include grandchildren: Michael Salina, wife Amber, and her children Elijah, Jack, and Judah of Grant Town, Leigh Anne Mazure of Forest Hills, NY, David Mazure of Grant Town, and Andrea Salina, her daughter Madalyn Thompson, and fiancé Shawn Fleming of Colfax.
Juanita has two surviving brothers, James “Jack” Cummings of West Jefferson, NC, and Ron Cummings and wife Bonnie of Warrenville, IL, one sister Nancy Riley and husband Ed of New London, WI, and a sister-in-law Helen Parrish Cummings of Grant Town. There are numerous nieces and nephews in the family. Also surviving is a long-time special friend, John Toothman of Barrackville. The family would like to thank Charla Butler, Katy King, and Sharon Rossi who were her dedicated caregivers in her home for the past year.
Honoring Juanita’s request to not have a public viewing, the family will have a private service with interment to follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second St., Rivesville, WV 26588.
