Obituary of Frank Joseph Urso

Frank Joseph Urso, 95, of Fairmont, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the W.V. Caring Hospice House in Elkins, WV. He was born September 16, 1926 in Fairmont, a son of the late Joseph and Jeanette Gallo Urso. He is survived by his wife, Dora Lee Hurt Stotler Urso. Frank was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairmont. He was a proud veteran with the United States Army having served during World War II in the Philippines as a Tech Sergeant. Following his service during the war, he attended W.V. Business College. Frank spent his career as a salesman having worked for 27 years with Fear and Sons, and then 18 years with Richardson’s Sporting Goods. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Club of Fairmont, as well as the Fairmont Field Club. Frank loved to travel, his most memorable trips being four separate visits to Italy, as well as traveling to Israel where he and Dora were baptized in the Jordan River. He enjoyed bowling in the Fairmont Business and Professional League, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends. He was excellent cook of Italian foods and was very proud of his Italian Heritage. Frank was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his wife, he was survived by his daughter, Kathy Urso Hitchcock (Hugh), of Elkins, step-sons, Lyle Stotler of Fairmont, Mark Stotler (Martha) of Charleston, WV, granddaughter, Whitney Hitchcock, Annapolis, MD, step-grandchildren, Bethany Hall (Chad) of Fenwick, WV, Hallie Stotler and Kyle Stotler of Fairmont, and Katy Stotler of Kitty Hawk, NC, Bryan Stotler (Nicole) of Pearland, TX, Adam Stotler (Sarah) of Pinch, WV, Matt Merical (Ann) of Yorktown, VA, and Joe Merical (Jaelyn) of Powell, Ohio, and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Adams Urso and his siblings, Catherine and Louis, his special aunt and uncle, Teresa Romano Urso and Anthony “Tony” Urso. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 901 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554, or to the WV Caring Hospice House, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV 26241, or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends and family are invited to visit at the funeral home on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 4PM until 8PM, and at the First Baptist Church, 901 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, WV on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 10 AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the First Baptist Church of Fairmont on Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Kevin Aldana and Pastor Val Gittings officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, WV where military rites will be held graveside by the Marion County Veterans Council.
