Obituary of Nick Albert Alberico

Nick Albert Alberico, 90, of Fairmont, West Virginia died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV. He was born November 23, 1925 in Fairmont, WV the son of the late Nick Alberico and Mary Pellegrin Alberico. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Ilene Edgar Alberico in 2004. He is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law: Ronald E. and Patricia B. Alberico of Chestertown, MD, Robert A. Alberico and Stephanie Satterfield of Pittsburgh, PA and John Schleicher of Fairmont, WV; 2 daughters and 2 sons- in-law: Rebecca A. and David DeCarlo of Cross Lanes, WV, and Christina and Todd Gump of Morgantown, WV; a sister and brother-in-law: Mary Ann and Dennis Younger of Severna Park, MD, 10 grandchildren Laura Alberico-Klug, Abigail Alberico, Bredon Alberico, Rachel Alberico, Hilarie Alberico, Christian Alberico, Jenna DeCarlo, Cara DeCarlo, Evan Gump and Madeline Gump, 1 great-grandchild, Paden Klug, and many nieces & nephews. Mr. Alberico owned & operated Nick’s Exxon in Fairmont for over 40 years. He had previously owned the Speedway Gulf Station and the Alberico Transport Co. both in Fairmont. Nick was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Fairmont and had served as a former church treasurer. He was a proud veteran having served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Nick was a gunner & yeoman on the USS Saratoga and also a golden glove boxer while in service. He later served as an area Navy Recruiter. Mr. Alberico was a 1942 Graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended Fairmont State College. He was a past councilman for the Pleasant Valley City Council. Nick was quite an outdoorsman. He enjoyed boating and teaching water skiing in the area, as well as hunting & fishing at his camp near Petersburg, WV. Mr. Alberico was a founding member of the W.V. Sportsman & Firearms Association and was a former W.V. State Champion Skeet Shooter. He was also Past President of the Briar Hill Hunting Club in Petersburg, WV. Nick enjoyed bird hunting and raising many beloved dogs over the years. He was talented in his shop where he loved to make intricate doll houses for his grandchildren. He was also known as a competitive bowler in our area. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1020 West State Street, Baden, PA 15005 in appreciation for the support provided by Sister Stella Cronauer, CSJ and her ministries. The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 2-8 p.m. The Catholic Vigil Service will be recited in the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with Sister Stella Cronauer, CSJ. Mass of Christian burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 329 Maryland Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 Monday, October 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Walter Jagela as Celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairmont, WV. Full Military Honors will be held by the Military Veterans Council of Marion County. Pallbearers will include Matt Klug, Bredon Alberico, Christian Alberico, Evan Gump, Joey Pellegrin and Matthew Younger. Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Todd Gump.
