Obituary of Richard Dale Morrison
On Saturday, June 18, 2022, Richard Dale “Dick” Morrison, loving husband and father, passed away at age 75.
Richard was born on December 27, 1946 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Sidney and Ruth (Linn) Morrison. He was the baby brother of Rose Marie Cutlip of Fairmont and Sidney “Mick” Morrison of Morgantown.
In his early years, Racing Dick had a rebellious spirit and he loved to ride his Harley and race muscle cars. He was a MP in the Vietnam War, a coal miner, and he spent the majority of his life working the rail yards of Fairmont, Grafton, Cowen, and Cumberland as a CSX railroader.
Richard was a jack of all trades and he could build something beautiful out of anything. He proudly built his family’s home and, during its construction, he gifted his wife a bulldozer for their anniversary. He was a great lover of the outdoors and he would hunt, fish, and camp whenever he got the chance. He loved to play the lottery, eat Yann’s hotdogs, grill, hit the beach, and call the screech owls in.
In his later years, Richard was a gruff soul, but his rough exterior hid a soft heart. He often played Santa Claus on the railroad train rides, cooked for friends and coworkers, and offered his vast knowledge to help solve many problems. He was 1 of 46 first cousins in the Morrison and Linn families and he enjoyed hosting their large family reunions.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jody Morrison, and their two daughters Lisa Collins and Heather Morrison and her husband Christopher Davis. He will be particularly missed by his two favorite fishing and hunting buddies, his grandsons, Zachary and Matthew Collins. Richard leaves behind numerous loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV on Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be celebrated in the funeral home at 7:00 PM with Pastor Scott Cutlip presiding. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
