Obituary of Doris Ruth Schmidt

Doris Ruth Schmidt died Saturday, June 11, 2022 in the Fairmont Medical Center. She was born December 20, 1922 in Richwood, WV a daughter of the late Wallace A. Hurd and Goldie McCurdy Hurd. She was preceded in death by her former husband Robert E. Schmidt Sr. She is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters in laws Robert E. “Mole” & Kay Schmidt, John & Rhonda Schmidt, and Betty Schmidt, a daughter and son in law Dotti & Alan Fischer, 8 grandchildren Brian Carr, Mike Schmidt & his wife Brenda, Louis Schmidt & his wife Sunny, Loren Schmidt & his wife Janet, Robby Schmidt & his wife Shannon, Lori Schmidt-Jones, John Ryan Schmidt and his wife Ashley, and Melissa Schmidt Northey and her husband Jeff, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great -great grandchild, a sister Mary Lou Melvin, her son-in-law Eric Faulkenstein, and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a son William Loren Schmidt, 2 daughters Bonnie Marie Schmidt and Elizabeth Falkenstein, 2 sisters Shirley Swiger and Dorothy Hurd, and two brothers John Hurd and Bud Hurd. Mrs. Schmidt was a homemaker and had previously worked for Hickory Farms and the Manchin Carpet Center. She was a member of St. Peter’s The Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont, a member of the Catholic Daughters, a 1940 graduate of East Fairmont High School and attended Fairmont State College. She was a member of the Gamma Chi Chi Sorority while in college. Mrs. Schmidt lived for 17 years in Merritt Island, Florida. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. There will not be a public visitation or funeral service.
