Bevelyn Greene

Obituary of Bevelyn Hope Greene

Bevelyn Hope Fluharty Greene made her heavenly journey home on June 12, 2022. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Being an only child, it was her dream to have a large family. Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by them. She often could be heard saying,” Look what we did,” when referencing to our family of fifty-one. Seven children, two sets of twins, sons-in-laws and daughters- in -laws, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren later, I believe her dream was fulfilled. Her talents were many but most will agree that her ability to make each of us feel special was her greatest. No one loved more, hugged any tighter, or was a stronger rock then our mom. Her home was a gathering place where one could enter and feel the weight of the world lifted. A place where memories were shared and made. Her devotion was endless and her strength was faith driven. She had a kind heart and a passion for helping others in need. Mom prided herself in never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or family milestone. She taught us the true meaning of family and lead by example. Skipper ( a nickname our dad gave her), was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and Fairmont State College where she earned a teaching degree. She worked at Westinghouse retiring after 25 years. Being a teacher at heart she combined that with her love of church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Women’s Society and enjoyed the many friendships made. She belonged to the Gama Gama Sorority. Mom was a Gold Star Mother and proudly served as the state president. She was a member of the Gateway United Methodist Church where she took great pride in playing in the hand bell choir. While she will be greatly missed, we know she has waited a long time to see her husband Lloyd “Bud” Greene of nearly 60 years, her sons Buddy(Lloyd Jr)and Larry, her mother Agnes, and grandson Michael. We are certain there was a beautiful celebration upon her arrival in heaven. Left to cherish the imprint she left in our hearts are sons Danny(Barbara) of Worthington; Jeff(Cheryl) of Fairmont; daughters Maureen Ward (Neil), Donna Yearsley (Paul), both of Fairmont and Terry Underwood (Tim) of Moundsville , and her 32 grandchildren. Our family would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Jeanie Poole and the Marion County Senior Center for their years of devotion. Jeanie was more like a friend than a care giver and we considered her family, her neighbor Robert Pethel who treated mom as his own and was available anytime she needed help and to her former daughter-in-law Kerri Grandstaff who loved our mom and cared for her just as we had. Memorial donations may be made to Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond Street Fairmont, WV 26554. Our family invites you to join us in celebrating Mom’s life at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Steet, Fairmont, WV on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM, and then at the Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond Street, Fairmont, on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 10AM until 11AM. Life will not be the same without you. GOD saw you were tired, so he did what he knew best, he came and stood beside you and whispered, " Bevelyn come and take your rest.” We thank God for allowing us the joy of calling you Mom, Memaw, Nanny, Gram, Grandma, and Gigi. You were our greatest gift.
