Obituary of Donald G. Morgan

Donald Gene Morgan, 89, of Fairmont, formerly of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Genesis Healthcare, Tygart Center in Fairmont. He was born April 3, 1933 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Fred and Evelyn Shriver Morgan. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Helen Deering Morgan. Don attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He attended Farmington High School and in his last year entered the United States Army where he served in Korea as a Sargent. He retired in 1994 from Wesbanco Bank and formerly First National Bank in Fairmont with over 30 years of service as a collections supervisor. He had previously worked with Franks Tire, Smiley Sonoco, and American Gas Station all in Fairmont. After his retirement he worked as a clerk with Southern States and later with Ford Funeral Home both in Fairmont. Don was a Past Master and 50 year member of the Joe Summers Lodge #173 A.F.&A.M. in Morgantown, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Wheeling Consistory, and 18th degree Scottish Rite Valley of Morgantown, Grand Chapter of WV Morgantown #30 R.A.M., Morgantown Commander No. 18 Knights Templar of Morgantown. Don was an expert woodworker and loved spending time in his woodshop. He always had a project on the table or in the works and was always willing to help his friends complete a home project. He kept an immaculate yard as well as truck which always had his tool box at the ready. In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his daughter, Amy and Pete Conroy of Morgantown, WV, and her children, Jacqueline Conroy, Chip Conroy, and Caitlyn Conroy, his step-son, Michael Shawn and Angie Williams of Hudson, OH, and his children, Hailey Grace Williams, and Kelsey Clare Williams, as well as several nieces and nephews including Carol Mays Rutherford and her husband Bob, Carol Tatterson, and Fred and Carolyn Mays, all of Fairmont. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Morgan, Paul Morgan, Wayne Morgan, John Morgan, Beulah Morgan, Nellie Morgan Mays, Thelma Morgan Perron, Dorothy Morgan Ritter, and Helen Morgan Cornwell. The family would like to thank the caring doctor, nurses, and staff of the Tygart Center as well as Amedisys Hospice for the special care and love they extended to Don. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 11 AM until 1PM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1PM with Father Jojan Joseph, C.S.T. as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont, WV.
