Obituary of John Patrick McDowell
John Patrick McDowell, 61, of Fairmont, WV, formerly of Waynesburg, PA, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022. He was born December 1, 1960 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Sandra McDowell Burns and Edward Brasfield.
John served in the US Army as a Ranger. After the Army he attended Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV where he graduated with several degrees. He was last employed by G.A. Brown and Sons until his retirement.
John was many things in life, a son, brother, father, nephew, cousin, and friend. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking, anything that had to do with the outdoors. He liked to listen to country music. One of his favorite things to do, most of all, was to go to his best friend’s home and farm near Oak Forest.
John is survived by his son, Agustus McDowell of Pittsburgh, daughters, Chalee McDowell of Fairmont, and Amanda, sisters, Kelly Taylor of Bonita Springs, FL, and Shannon Wallace of Carmichaels, PA, and his brother Ryan Burns of Charleston, WV. He is also survived by his best friend, David “Beep” Corwin and his wife Suzy of Oak Forest, PA, and his canine companion, Bullet, as well as his uncle, Richard (Marymae) Widdup of Meadowview, VA, his aunts, Shelda Kendralla of Greensboro, PA, and Carolyn (Jim) Brothers of Kent, OH, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his mother and father, John was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John Dawson “J.D.” and Hazel Widdup.
To honor John’s wishes, there will be no public visitation and burial will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554.
