Obituary of Anna Lee Merrifield Baker

Anna Lee Merrifield Baker, 91, of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 in her residence. She was born October 10, 1930 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late Fred J. Merrifield and the late Garnett Madaline Herrington Swisher. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Benjamin L. Baker on December 28, 1993. Mrs. Baker was a Methodist by faith and formerly attended the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley. She formerly worked with Owens Illinois Glass Company in Fairmont, where she worked in the packing department. Anna was a member of the ladies’ auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fairmont. She enjoyed traveling and regularly visited Tennessee, Florida, Ohio, and New Jersey. Anna was an avid gardener and enjoyed caring for her home and yard. She was a devoted grandmother and loved watching her grandchildren playing sports. Mrs. Baker is survived by her sons, Benjamin L. Baker, Jr. and his wife Shelia, and Michael E. and his wife Kelli Baker, all of Pleasant Valley, her grandchildren: Ryan Baker, Leah and her husband Chris Ramsey, Craig Baker and his companion Whitney Ford, J.R. Baker and his companion Christie Moore, and Nathan Baker, her step-grandchildren, Taylor Gross and Cole Matthew Gross, as well as her great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Ramsey, Alivia Ramsey, Ryker Ramsey, Jenson Baker, and Bodhi Bryant. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Stella M. Ribic and her grandson Benjamin Aaron Baker The family would like to thank Debbie Summers Rife and the staff at WVU Medicine Hospice for their love, care, and support of Mrs. Baker. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the East Fairmont High School Foundation, 1993 Airport Road, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 4PM until 8PM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 10AM with Rev. Verlin Butcher, Rev. Joy Winfree, and Chaplain Colonel Brian Harki officiating.
